Note: This is an update of the previous hack, made for Nisus 3.47. Icons are now a little bit better and homogeneous than before. I didn’t like the new 3D look buttons in NisusWriter, so I changed them also.
Are you bored with the standard icons of your favorite word processor? If this is the case, then here is a suggestion.
You must have at least ResEdit 2.1 to use the file “NW-icons'N'rulers”. Double-click on it to see a window containing some resources. Open each of them to see the new icons and rulers. Here’s how you can install them in NisusWriter, to replace the old ones. Select all the resources and make a copy. Then open a copy of NisusWriter using ResEdit, and paste the resources. A dialog box will ask you if you want to replace all existing resources with the same ID number. Click on “Yes”, and voila! Close the file “Nisus” and save your changes. The next time you will launch Nisus, you will see a beautiful ruler with nice 3D-like buttons, in my humble opinion better looking than the original NisusWriter 3D look. To see the new icons, you will probably have to trash the original version of Nisus and rebuild your desktop. I used a ResEdit file, in place of sending a patcher, to give you the chance to see the new resources BEFORE pasting them into NisusWriter, in case you don’t like the new things I made.
Enjoy!
Shareware? If you like those resources and use them, I’ll ask you to send me 50$ as a shareware fee. What? Are you insane?? Okay, then, of course it’s free! You can do whatever you want with this!! :-)
Stupid note: You must have a color monitor to use these resources... because they almost all use colors! So if you have a black & white system, just forget about all this!
Warning
Never, NEVER, N E V E R change the resources of the original copy of Nisus on your installation disks! Using ResEdit, and particularly with Nisus which contains compressed resources, is very hazardous. If you made something wrong, there are some chances that you will lose the program! So be cautious with this. If you are in doubt, ask your local guru.
Also, note that I am not responsible for any damage caused by the installation of these resources. So, use them at your own risk.
Send me your opinion if you want to. I will be glad to hear from you, just to see where in the world these resources can go. My e-mail address is:
